On Wednesday (1st), the release of seven new master's and six doctorate scholarships for the Federal University of Santa Maria was announced. The announcement was made by the Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel (Capes), in view of the fundamental role played by science in the search for solutions to avoid or reduce the consequences caused by the covid-19 pandemic. The postgraduate programs covered by Capes are those that, according to the agency, have the potential to create practical and specific knowledge aimed at preventing, combating and confronting the pandemic and new crises of equal or greater proportion, today and in the future. . Capes' objective, with the new grants, is to induce the creation of knowledge related, especially, to the prevention and combat of the current pandemic, endemic diseases or epidemics in general, involving areas of knowledge such as infectology, epidemiology, immunology, microbiology, biotechnology , bioinformatics, bioengineering, or related, whose knowledge can compose coordinated efforts to act in such situations.
At UFSM, the programs covered were Biological Sciences – Toxicological Biochemistry (three master's scholarships and three doctorate scholarships), Pharmaceutical Sciences (two master's scholarships and one doctorate scholarship) and Pharmacology (two master's scholarships and two doctorate scholarships ). The selection of scholarship recipients will follow the same rules as the institutional scholarship granting program in the Cayman Islands Phone Number List country. Doctoral scholarships will have a maximum duration of 36 months and may, exceptionally, be extended for 12 months.
