After documenting animal abuse on farms with a caged egg production system, Mercy For Animals demands regulation of cage-free systems from SADER as a first step to reduce animal suffering. This is what we found:
Thousands of chickens live crammed Middle East Mobile Number List into dirty cages so small that each bird has a living space no larger than a letter-sized sheet of paper. These conditions prevent chickens from being able to walk freely, spread their wings or perform other natural behaviors of their species.
Some of the birds die after being trapped between the wire of the cages.
Others die when they become trapped in the manure slough they fall into after escaping from their cages, raising food safety concerns.
Mercy for Animals
These are species genetically selected to lay as many eggs as possible, which causes serious conditions that often go without receiving veterinary care. The images even show chickens with oviduct prolapses, that is, with organs of the reproductive system that protrude from their body.
The video also captured a possible case of animal cruelty, such as the moment in which a chicken is hit and thrown with a stick, which reveals a lack of training on the part of the company for those who work on the farm.
Unfortunately, this is the reality that is experienced every day within the facilities that still use cage housing systems. This is why there is an increasing tendency for large companies to stop selling eggs from caged hens, since cage-free systems considerably reduce the suffering of hens.
#EggRegulation
However, in Mexico, to this day, there is no regulation that guarantees the well-being of hens in cage-free systems, so the packaging label does not ensure the origin of the eggs.
In 2022, the creation of an Official Mexican Standard (NOM) to regulate cage-free egg production was included in the National Quality Infrastructure Program of the Government of Mexico, but it has not yet been approved.
This NOM will reduce the suffering of hens exploited in the egg industry, which is why it is essential to guarantee transparency to the public and to ensure that those who claim to produce cage-free eggs comply with the animal welfare standards of these production systems.

Mercy For Animals and all the people who sign the petition included on the research page demand that the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development implement a NOM to regulate the production and labeling of cage-free eggs.
